Hi, I’m Kes Stephenson.

My route to interior design was not particularly conventional. I spent eleven years living in Paris, including five years performing at the Moulin Rouge, before moving into other creative work. Dance gave me an enduring appreciation for proportion, movement, line and form—things that still influence the way I design spaces today.

After returning to Australia and later moving to Toronto, I studied psychology and professional writing at the University of Toronto before working at House & Home. That experience brought me back to a lifelong interest in interiors, and I went on to study interior design professionally.

My background in psychology is as important to my work as my visual training. I’m interested in how spaces affect the way we feel, move and live — and in creating homes that are not simply beautiful, but intuitive, personal and genuinely good to be in.

My work tends toward the warm, layered and quietly unconventional: considered rather than precious, with an emphasis on natural materials, strong forms, collected pieces and a little humour.

The goal is never a house that looks “designed.” It’s a home that feels unmistakably like the person who lives there.
